MSU Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test

The Government of Tamil Nadu vide its G.O.(D) No.262 dated 02 -09-2023 has nominated Manonmaniam Sundaranar University as “Nodal Agency” to conduct State Eligibility Test (SET) from the academic year 2023-2024 on behalf of the Goverment of Tamil Nadu. UGC vide its letter No.F.7-7/2015(NET/SET) dated 20-09-2023 has updated its official record that Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is the “Nodal Agency”.

Eligibility Criteria for TNSET

i. All the candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC (available on the website: www.ugc.ac.in ) are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste(SC) / SC(A) /Scheduled Tribe (ST) /Persons with Disability (PwD)/Third gender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

ii. Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test.

However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC / SC(A) /ST/ PwD / Third gender category candidates).

Such candidates must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of TNSET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as ineligible.

iii. The Ph.D degree holders whose Master’s Level examination has been completed by 19 September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in TNSET.

iv. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their Post -Graduation only. The candidates, whose Post Graduation subject is not covered in the list of TNSET subjects may appear in the UGC-NET/joint CSIR-UGC Test.

v. Candidates with post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute or foreign degree /diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi(ww.aiu.ac.in)

vi. There is no upper age limit in applying for TNSET.

Pattern of Examination for TNSET

i. The TNSET would be conducted in the pattern of UGC-NET. Accordingly, the test will consist of two papers as in UGC-NET.

ii. The test will consist of two papers, Paper I and Paper II. Paper I will be common to all the candidates, while Paper II will be based on the PG subject chosen by the candidates (as given in the TNSET list of subjects) . Both the papers are only of objective type and multiple choice questions (MCQ) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. There will be no break between the papers.

MCQ : Paper I tests to assess the general knowledge, teaching capabilities, research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, higher education system, people and development, environment, mathematical aptitude, divergent thinking and general awareness of the Candidate.

Number of Questions : 100
MCQ : Paper II tests the understanding of the domain knowledge of the candidate in the PG subject chosen from the list of TNSET subjects.
Total duration : 03 hours (180 minutes) without any break. All the questions are compulsory.

i. Syllabus for TNSET will be the same as in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli will not send the syllabi to the candidates individually.
ii. The medium of Question Paper shall be in English only except Paper II of language subjects (Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Telugu and Urdu).
iii. There is no negative mark for incorrect answers.

Note : The Examination fee should be paid through online via Debit card/Credit card / Net banking / UPI only. Examination Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

How to Apply for TNSET?

Candidate can apply for TNSET 2024 through “Online” mode only. The Application Form in any other mode will not be accepted.

Instructions for filling Online Application Form:
Download the Information Bulletin. Read it carefully to ensure your eligibility.

Follow the steps given below to Apply Online:
Step-1: Apply for Online Registration using own Email Id and Mobile No.

Step-2: Fill in the Online Application Form and note down the system generated Application Number. Upload scanned images of:
** A recent passport size photo (file size 10Kb – 200Kb) in colour with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against white background;
** Candidate’s signature (file size: 4kb – 30kb)

Step-3: Pay the examination fee using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI and keep proof of fee paid.
** The Confirmation Page of the online Application Form will be generated only after successful payment by the Candidate.
** Download, save and print a copy of Confirmation Page of the Application Form for future reference.

Note :
** All the 3 Steps can be done together or at separate timings. The submission of Application of a candidate could be considered as successful and his/her candidature would be confirmed only on the successful transaction/receipt of the prescribed examination fee from him/her.

** If fee payment is not successful, the candidate should approach the concerned Bank to ensure the payment details or to obtain the refund of payments.
** The final submission of Online Application Form will remain incomplete if Step-2 and step-3 are not completed. Such forms will stand rejected and no correspondence on this account will be entertained.
** Request for refund of examination fee once remitted by the candidate will not be entertained under any circumstances.

** The entire application process for TNSET 2024 shall be made only through online, including uploading of scanned images, payment of fee, and printing of confirmation page, hall ticket, etc. Therefore, the candidates are not required to send/submit any document(s) including confirmation page to University through Post/ Fax/ WhatsApp/Email/In person.

** Usage of Data and Information: Manonmaniam Sundaranar University/Government of Tamil Nadu can use the data provided by the candidates for internal purpose(s) including training, research and development, analysis and other permissible purpose(s). However, this information is not for use by any third party or private agency for any other use.
